| Il Civettaio was born in 1998 with the objective of creating a small, quality estate, typical of the territory and where a part of the Maremma can be experienced. The estate measures 30 hectares – average height above sea-level 150 metres – subdivided into vineyards, olive trees and woodland. It is located at Montecucco doc at 25 km from the sea and enjoys 2300 average hours of sunshine per year. The vineyards are 7,5 hectars divided in Sangiovese -mainly- Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The olive trees are about 1.000 divided in Correggiolo, Frantoio and Olivastra Seggianese. Right from the beginning, the cultivation method has been organic – Icea certified. Life was made easy for us, apart from the old olive grove, by freshly planting on land which has always been pasture land. And again, the fact of being surrounded by a wood helps us to be organic: we are “sheltered” from diseases. I |
